What do you think? Easy 10 Points!?
I have just finished watching Memoirs of a Geisha. I have my own opinions and just out of curiosity I was wondering what other people thought.
So here are my questions:
Was their acting believable?
Their make-up?
Their costumes?
Thanks and God Bless xxxxx

Even tho i don’t know much about the history of geisha’s. My grandmother has collected some really old dolls modeled after geisha’s and the only thing as far as make up and dresses that didn’t match was the hair. Overall i think this is a great movie. It is one of my favorites and i think the acting was great. I could watch it everyday. It is the type of movie that just sucks you in lol

well i didn’t like it my self bu you have to give them credit although that suck.

plot: The novel is narrated from the point of view of Sayuri Nitta, a retired geisha in her 70s, living in the Waldorf Towers in New York City. She is interviewed by Jakob Haarhuis, a professor at New York University. Professor Haarhuis is credited as the story’s translator, although he is a fictional character himself. (This is apparently a reference to the fact that Golden interviewed a retired geisha as part of his research for the novel.) The story is told in flashback format with continuous references to the time between Sayuri’s career and the time she is being interviewed. She also periodically explains different aspects of geisha life.

Sayuri recalls her early childhood as Chiyo Sakamoto, a young girl growing up in a poor fishing village. Along with her older sister Satsu, she is sold into a life of servitude by her elderly father and dying mother when she is nine years old. Chiyo is taken in by the unsympathetic proprietress of the Nitta geisha house, whom she addresses as "Mother". She befriends Mother’s sister ("Auntie") and another young girl in the house, Pumpkin, but also earns the jealous ire of the head geisha of the house, Hatsumomo. Chiyo spends most of her remaining childhood working as a maid while her sister is sold to a brothel, although she eventually succeeds in escaping, never to be seen by Chiyo again.

One day while crying in the street, the young Chiyo is noticed by a passerby, Chairman Ken Iwamura, who gives her his handkerchief with some money to buy an iced snow-cone. Inspired by his act of kindness, Chiyo resolves to become a geisha so that she may one day become a part of the Chairman’s life. Early in her teenage years, Chiyo is taken under the wing of Mameha, one of the top geisha in Kyoto at the time. Under Mameha’s tutelage, the girl Chiyo becomes Sayuri, the most famous geisha in all of Gion. Her growing success impacts on the careers and lives of Hatsumomo and Pumpkin. Hatsumomo tries to destroy Sayuri’s career, but ends up destroying her own when she bites one of her clients in a jealous fit. When her virginity is sold for a record high price, Sayuri is able to pay off her debt to the okiya (her purchase price; the soiling of a kimono owned by a well-known geisha, which Chiyo was blackmailed into defacing by Hatsumomo; the price of an expensive brooch, which Hatsumomo had hidden and claimed Chiyo had stolen; and her medical bill incurred after she injured herself while trying to escape, plus the cost of geisha school lessons and other items) is selected over Pumpkin as the heir of the okiya, earning the name Nitta Sayuri and causing Pumpkin to despair.

Through her work as a geisha, Sayuri is reunited with the Chairman, whom she has secretly loved since she was a girl. But her intentions of spending time with the Chairman are curtailed several times when she inadvertently attracts other clients seeking to become her patron, including the Chairman’s business partner in Iwamura Electric and close friend, Toshikazu Nobu. Her successful career is cut short by the outbreak of World War II, but Sayuri’s safety is ensured by Nobu, who sends her to a different town to live with his friend’s family. Nonetheless, Sayuri and those close to her must endure a life of hard labor. After the end of the war, Nobu visits Sayuri and asks that she return to Gion to help entertain Deputy Minister Sato, who can help to restart the Chairman and Nobu’s company that was all but destroyed during the war. Nobu also tells Sayuri that once Iwamura Electric’s future is ensured, he will become Sayuri’s danna (patron). This distresses Sayuri, but she agrees to help due to her feeling of debt toward Nobu.

Once returned to Gion, Sayuri seeks the help of Mameha and Pumpkin to entertain the Deputy Minister. The three women become geisha once more, and Sayuri reunites with the Chairman through these entertainment gatherings. Eventually, Nobu tells Sayuri that the time has come for him to become her danna and Sayuri despairs. On a weekend trip to Amami Islands with Iwamura Electric, Sayuri devises a plan to humiliate herself with the Deputy Minister in front of Nobu, thereby ending any affections Nobu has for her and freeing herself to be with the Chairman. Instead, Sayuri is humiliated in front of the Chairman by Pumpkin, who still harbors resentment toward her. Sayuri believes that her dream of being with the Chairman is lost.

Three days after her return from Amami, Sayuri receives a call to meet with Iwamura Electric. She is saddened as she anticipates meeting Nobu and discussing his patronage, but is surprised when the Chairman shows up rather than Nobu. The Chairman finally reveals to her that he knows she is Chiyo, and that he was responsible for sending Mameha to her so that she may become a geisha. The Chairman also states that he knows Sayuri humiliated herself with the intention of hurting Nobu,

Magic: The Gathering, opinions on my deck.?
i have based my deck mostly around Haste, as much instant damage as possible.

it is a red deck with some twists, and opinions on what cards i should remove or replace them with would be helpful, (i have a TON of Red cards so i can replace a card easily but what with, i have been out of the game for a year so im very very rusty)

throw in a couple more types of goblins and take out a couple of the other types. also get a card called warren instigator. it cost 6.49. its a good goblin card. if u have enough goblins then u make a goblin deck. warren instigator lets u put any goblin from your hand into play if u do damage to a player with him. he is only a 1/1 but if u pump him up he would be great. he also has double strike. goblin decks are awesome because most creatures are cheap and u can bring out a bunch of goblins. i no someone with a goblin deck and they win all the time with it. its so amazing. make a goblin deck and u will beat alot o people. also throw in some more newer cards. zendikar set is out with newer cards. those are old cards. u can buy a m10 deck thats all red or a zendikar deck that has multiple colors. with that then u have more cards. warren instigator is from zendikar set. u can do what u want. a deck is like 13 dolars and boster packs are 4. if u want to spend some money then u can do this. this is all just my opinion. that one is prety good but pretty old. so good luck

robot333 | Jan 05, 2010

Just an opinion not a bad deck btw… but if you can get some Extraplanar Lens :D help with the mana… i would say mana flare but there is no need to help out the enemy :D
Christopher | Jan 04, 2010

the best way to find out what to replace/take out/put in is to play the deck. if you own the cards, put the deck together and play it a bunch of times against different people. then sit down and think over the games, and find out what worked, what didn’t work, what would have worked, and what cards you groaned when you drew. then make edits to the deck. you have to personalize the deck to fit you, making it fun to play with and strong.
if you don’t own the cards, then save the images and put them into a word document, print it, and cut them out. put them in sleeves with some extra cards behind them for stability. then play the deck as if you did own the cards.

CaligulaCaligula (1979)

IMDB rating: 4.60

Plot: The rise and fall of the notorious Roman Emperor Caligula, showing the violent methods that he employs to gain the throne, and the subsequent insanity of his reign – he gives his horse political office and humiliates and executes anyone who even slightly displeases him. He also sleeps with his sister, organises elaborate orgies and embarks on a fruitless invasion of England before meeting an appropriate end. There are various versions of the film, ranging from the heavily- truncated 90-minute version to the legendary 160-minute hardcore version which leaves nothing to the imagination (though the hardcore scenes were inserted later and do not involve the main cast members).

Which emperor should I choose?
I need to do a project on history about one Roman emperor and i have a quick question. i’m not sure which one i should choose. My options are Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Vespasian, Domitian, or Nero. Which one should I do? Do any of you know which one would be easiest? I want one with plenty of information, because I have do a poster and a 100 word essay, but i don’t want too much. Also, we are sort of doing campaignes. So, i also need one that i can make sound really good. So no one who did a lot of bad things. So please help me! you can help me by putting one or two that i should consider doing and why, or put one or two that i should not do and why. Or both! Thanks a lot! Also check out my other question I’m about to put up about a Bill Nye the Science Guy episode!

I would pick Nero. While I agree with the Phd., that Claudius is a fascinating guy (not a huge fan of Tiberius, though), Nero’s reign was the most action-packed and his suicide ended the dynasty of the Julio-Claudians that went back 100 years to Julius (who was not an emperor!)

(Oh i just noticed, did lots of good things)

The funny thing about Nero is that the nobles hated him. Hated, hated, hated his guts. And that was part of the reason for his downfall. However, it seems that up until the fire, the masses of poor people loved him, because he performed plays, and appeared in chariot races, etc. He also castrated a boy who looked like the wife he murdered, and made the boy wear make-up, and kept him as his "wife" until his death. So an interesting guy.

If you want a good emperor: only Augustus, Claudius, and Vespasian.
The easiest to do would be Augustus. He was the first emperor, and he made the Roman Empire: the political and social systems, some that would last for 500 years. He was a very intelligent, crafty leader who always paid lots of respect to the Senate, but slowly took their power away. He ushered in an era of peace that lasted for 100 years (in Rome at least) and was remember as the wisest and best emperor after his death. He didn’t conquer too much land, but what he did was stabilize the lands that Romans had conquered, like Britain and Gaul (France) by keeping a standing army to protect it from barbarians. (and to keep the army from overthrowing his government in Rome!)

I guarantee he will be the easiest emperor to research (except for maybe Nero, and he was a disaster as emperor)

Vespasian was like Augustus in a lot of ways, except his background was in the military, and he was a war hero, much like Julius Caesar. He took power after a year-long civil war, and was remembered as a wise and good leader.

The answer that you are seeking for is that Caesar was been known to elevate a Kane sometimes
Manuela | Oct 14, 2009

If your report has to be on a Roman Emperor you first of all must forget about Caesar because he was not an Emperor.
Between the ones you mention I would choose Claudius or Tiberius because they have both very interesting personalities.
Claudius regarded as a nutcase – which he was not and Tiberius a life long resentment against his mother and Augustus.
Check them out they are fascinating.

If I was doing the project then I would go for Claudius. He had a rocky beginning and the fact that he was regarded as little better than an imbecile saved him from death at the hands of Caligula. He chiefly devoted himself to literature, especially history.

I have given you a web site to look at so you can decide when you have had a look through it.
Laredo | Oct 14, 2009

Emperor is an English word which no Roman ever heard. Julius was no princeps nor Augustus but by the time he died was the one man at the head of the Empire and if your teacher lets you choose him, choose him. He’s head and shoulders above all the others. A great general, a great writer, a great pleasure-lover.

People – Cleopatra, Pompey
Writings – you can even get a page of his Latin from the Latin Library, and a translation from another site.
